Alan joined the Community Alcohol Partnerships (CAP) team in 2012 following his retirement from his role as Acting Chief Inspector for South Yorkshire Police. Whilst serving in the police, his projects won the prestigious County Partnership Award and was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement in Policing Award.

Since 2012 Alan has created CAP projects covering over 130 areas across England and Scotland, actively promoting Ask of Angela into each.
